INFINITIVES



Infinitives

To form an infinitive, use:
TO + THE BASE FORM OF THE VERB
TO read
TO write

The infinitives are used after certain verbs.

a) Some verbs are followed directly by an infinitive like: learn, decide, agree, etc.
      Lourdes ‘students learned TO WRITE.


b) Some verbs are followed by an object + an infinitive, like: urge, persuade, etc.  
       Lourdes urged her students TO WRITE about their life.


c) Some verbs are followed by an infinitive or an object + an infinitive like: want, ask, need, etc.
Lourdes wanted them TO WRITE their personal life.



· USE THE INFINITIVE AFTER CERTAIN ADJECTIVES LIKE.

Free, able, hard, etc.
Lourdes ´students were free TO WRITE about whatever they wanted.

· USE THE INFINITIVE AFTER CERTAIN NOUNS LIKE:

Ability, freedom, etc.
Lourdes’ students had the freedom to write about whatever they wanted.
